digital marketing

This is because, as you will see, analyzing your competitor's content could also be a kind of content marketing strategy that's slowly growing in popularity.

But, still widely used.

Now you would possibly be thinking, It's great to possess all this information but what do I do with it now?

9 Best Digital Marketing Tools for Small Business

Build your content from the content ideas you generate

Well, now that you have all that information, it's time to start creating your content.

However, when you are creating new content…

...we do not want you to rearrange the same exact information as one of our competitors and arrange it differently.

This will not differentiate your content from the competition.

The first step to making your blog stand out from the competition is to choose a content topic that people really like and want to read about.

You can see what's popular and well received by your audience using the various metrics provided in the SEMrush report that we just showed you.

Then, when you find material on a topic you want to write about, come up with some unique ideas for that topic.

And, start taking advantage of skyscraper technology.

Now, we've talked about skyscraper technology in a previous post, but if you're new here...

... skyscraper technology basically tells us to do bigger and better things than the competition.

It gets its name from the idea that countries around the world always compete to see who builds the tallest building.

So how does one do that when creating content?

Well, if your contest content is 3,000 words, we want you to double that and make your own 6,000 words.

It may sound like a lot but it is going to do wonders for your business and your audience.

However, when you do this, you need to be careful for your article to remain effective.

We don't want you to add filler only so that you can reach a set word count.

For what you are doing to be effective, you need to add more details.

This is compared to the articles of your competitors to provide more value to your audience.

Don't just look at your list of keywords and throw them wherever you can.

Instead, build on those keywords to create amazing and engaging content.

When people read your content, they shouldn't feel the need to look elsewhere on the Internet for answers to their questions.

This is because you must have already covered them all in your article.

You can be creative with your content too!

Don't feel the necessity to only write plenty of text.

In addition, text-only blogs are considered less effective for your marketing goals and less attractive to your audience.

Instead, include other visual elements that provide value to your audience and support what you are writing.

But what we're talking about are custom graphics made by you!

Why this?

Because despite the typical blog post length being 1,151 words, the typical time a reader spends reading a blog post is merely 37 seconds!

This is an extremely limited attention span considering the length of that blog.

However, if you provide the audience with more than just text and include:

custom graphics,

video, and

Images

... you ought to be ready to hold their attention for an extended.

Not only will this keep them on your page longer, which is a good thing to improve SEO, but it will also keep your visitors more engaged.

Thus, they will be more likely to come back.

And speaking of custom graphics, if you need some help with that, check out our graphic design services here.

Promote your content and get backlinks

Now that you simply have published your content, you would like to market it.

To do this, we want you to go back to SEMrush and go through the list of people who backlinked to your competitor's article.

And, we want you to reach them via email.

Send them something like this:

digital marketing

Now we all know you're probably thinking, "This is hard work. How often do I even have to try to do this?"

Although you may not like to hear this, the answer is that you have to do it as often as possible in order to be successful.

This is because people are less likely to link to your article.

That doesn't mean they all want it, but it does mean that a large percentage won't link back to you.

So, to increase your chances of getting backlinks and thus promoting your article, you need to repeat this step again and again.

If you do this, over time, you will see that people will start backlinking to your content.

This will help your content rank higher thereby helping you to get free traffic to your website.

It also means that you will start getting more social shares.

This is what sets you apart from the other 4.5 million blog posts that are published every single day that no one is reading.

Did you recognize that blogs are literally the foremost popular sort of content to produce?

This number is increasing every year so you need to do everything possible to differentiate yourself from the competition.

By following this process, you are making sure that you are creating the highest quality and most engaging content.

And, you are setting yourself up for success so that your article can be seen and shared across the internet.

Reach people you've linked

The last tip we have for you is the opposite of this step.

In this step, we reached out to all the people who linked to your competitor's article via email and asked them to link to your article.

Chances are you have most likely engaged with people in your article as well.

So for our final suggestion, we want you to contact the people you linked to in your article via email.

Tell them in your email that you linked them in your article and be sure to provide them with a link so they can view it for themselves.

Then, ask them if they will share your content on their favorite social media platform for business.

In most cases, people will cringe and be ready to share your content in a Tweet, Facebook post, or LinkedIn post.

It accomplishes a few things.

For starters, you've now promoted someone else's content with your own which will make them happy and more likely to share your content.

When they share your content, they are providing great content to their audience.

And this is also likely to drive traffic to their site as they are linked in the article.

On top of that, you will now get more traffic from them sharing your article on social networks.

This is how you can use SEMrush for unlimited content ideas.

However, we must say that the strategy we shared with you in this post can also be used to update your current content.

If you have been blogging for a while now, go back to a blog post from 1 to 2 years ago…

This is because as you can see in the stats above, updating and rearranging existing content is rated as the second most efficient content marketing strategy.

And it actually grew 10% from 2019 to 2020.

Bonus Tip for Content Topic Research

That tactic is to take advantage of Google Trends.

The website uses graphs to show the search volume of various queries over time.

So how are you able to use this tool for topic ideas?

Well, for starters, if you have already got an inventory of ideas and need to understand when is the best time to post them…

…view the graphs that Google Trends provides you to see if there is a particular month of the year that that topic is trending.

Simply move your mouse over the entire graph to see when the data was collected to help you identify when your topic is trending.

If you can spot this trend, you can shape your content schedule around it so that your posts perform as best as possible.

To find new theme ideas, all you have to do is check out the related topic section.

Google Trends will provide you with a list of topics that are related to the topic you searched for.

They also have a section for Related Questions which will show all related search queries and which are the most popular.

When you put it all together, Google Trends can be quite a useful tool in your digital marketing toolbox.

Well, that's all for this post!
